Yoga for Real People

Some people have the impression that Yoga is only for the young or the very flexible. These classes or one to one sessions are for real people like you - people who are always meaning to do some regular Yoga practice at home or take some regular "me time" but somehow never get round to it, people who would like to be fitter but are not sure where to start. Newcomers to Yoga are always welcome.

In traditional Hatha Yoga the is focus on relaxation, breathing, posture work and meditation. Ruth also draws on Tai Chi, Dru Yoga and healing for inspiration which makes the classes and sessions more varied and interesting. There's usually some fun too as laughter is great for releasing tension. The Asanas (postures) will increase your flexibility and muscle tone and well as stretching out your tension. Everyone works at their own level and postures are adapted to suit your needs whatever they may be. You will learn to be more aware of your body, breath and mind as we move through the physical postures into the guided visualisations and final meditation.

The classes are friendly and we meet up socially twice a year for a post Christmas dinner and a summer garden party. Here's a photo of some of us from this year's summer get together.

Ruth's Story
As a very young mother of 2 small children I was anxious and tired. My GP had prescribed tranquilisers and anti depressants. After a few weeks I stopped taking them because I didn't enjoy feeling like a zombie! A friend asked if I would like to join her at a Yoga class. Always happy to try out something new, I went along and was hooked from that first session and have been practicing Yoga since then - about 35 years. I qualified as a Yoga teacher in 2000 with The Yoga for Health Foundation and have been running classes for 9 years.

The Benefits of Meditation
Meditation has been the core practice of all spiritual paths for thousands of years. It is the most effective method to access your inner wisdom, rediscover inner peace and enhance your creative ability. Meditation restores well being and that allows you to create a life that is successful and fulfilling. Learning how to meditate is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

"Do not take life's experiences too seriously. Above all, do not let them hurt you, for in reality they are nothing but dream experiences. Play your part in life but never forget that it is a role". - Paramahansa Yogananda.
