Reiki in the Community
Reiki Awareness Week
For a week in June a group of Reiki Practitioners gave free taster treatments to staff at the Derby Royal Infirmary. Between us we treated about fifty people and they were generally very impressed with the levels of relaxation and or pain relief they gained. One of the porters wondered how he could possibly go back to work now he felt so relaxed!
We gave Reiki treatments to a whole range of workers at the hospital. We treated qualified nurses and doctors as well as students, porters and cleaners, physiotherapists, radiographers and an anaesthetist amongst others. We became aware of the very high stress levels among these professional carers who are dealing with demanding jobs and with the difficulties of working within the NHS at the moment.
It was very satisfying to be able to offer healing and relaxation from Reiki back to this wonderful group of people. It was especially important for me to be able to give back in this way as I had been a patient in Derby's Accident and Emergency twice last year. Reiki Group Healing at the Derby Royal Infirmary Reiki in the Community We aim to repeat this event at the City Hospital in Derby for a week starting September 17th.
